Prehistoric Texas Cave Formed by an Earthquake | Wonder World Cave (San Marcos, TX)
Wonder World Cave & Adventure Park, a natural theme park located in San Marcos, Texas, has a rich history that dates back to its discovery in 1893 and is Texas' first-ever show cave. Wonder Cave, the primary attraction of the park, is an ancient earthquake cave and a Recorded Texas Historic Landmark. It is known as a dry-formed cave, as the fissure was opened by an earthquake and not by erosion. The quake had produced the Balcones fault, and the fault is visible in the cave ceiling. The cave offers a glimpse into the past geological eras of the Earth’s history. It houses fossilized prehistoric life encased in various strata formations and huge boulders suspended in mid-air. Wonder World Cave is also home to a wildlife park accessed via train ride and a classic anti-gravity house.
