Six Flags Over Texas today announced Friday, June 26 as the grand opening for Tormenta Rampaging Run, the park’s newest roller coaster.

Tormenta Rampaging Run shatters several world records, especially in the dive coaster category. At 309 feet tall with a 285-foot first drop, the new coaster becomes the tallest of its kind (and the tallest coaster in Texas). Tormenta Rampaging Run is also be the fastest dive coaster in the world, reaching top speeds of 87 miles per hour. Two of the coaster’s inversions, its Immelmann and vertical loop, are the tallest in their respective categories. Tormenta Rampaging Run’s 4,199 feet of track also makes it the longest dive coaster in the world.

Tormenta Rampaging Run is accompanied by a refreshed Spain section. Rancho de la Tormenta, an immersive, themed area depicting an old and secluded Spanish village, will warmly welcomes guests with vibrant colorful banners and jubilant Spanish music. This fictional town was initially named after the storms (tormentas) that swept across the plains it occupied, but that soon changed with the birth of a legendary bull that grew to be the most feared and respected animal in the land. Known for his fierce strength and incredible speed, matadors from all over Spain traveled to face him but none could defeat him. His name was Tormenta.

As guests enter the plaza, they immediately will be engulfed by the aromas coming from Cocina Abuela, a brand-new restaurant redefining theme park dining. Inspired by the rich culinary traditions of Spain and Latin America, the menu will showcase bold, scratch-made favorites like Spanish rice, papas bravas, chicken tinga, and fresh house-made guacamole, all crafted with an emphasis on vibrant flavors and authentic quality. Cocina Abuela’s opening date is currently unknown.

The addition of Tormenta Rampaging Run isn’t the only major change happening to Six Flags Over Texas’ Spain section. La Fiesta de las Tazas, commonly known as the teacups ride, has undergone major renovations, including fresh paint, upgraded signage and a new entrance queue.
